First passenger trains at Stratford Parkway

Stratford Parkway aerial shotThe first London Midland passenger trains will be calling at the brand new Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway station on Sunday 19 May.

The £6.9 million construction project has been carried out on behalf of Warwickshire County Council by contractor Buckingham Group. The new station is a central part of Warwickshire County Council’s Stratford-upon-Avon Local Sustainable Transport Project, funded by the Department of Transport.

Local TV channel’s video documentaries track station big build

Stratford TV vid 4From the first ceremonial spade in the ground in October to last month’s overnight installation of a 170 tonne steel footbridge, local TV service Stratford TV has been capturing the construction of Warwickshire’s newest train station, Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway, which will welcome its first passengers when in opens next month.

Progress is far from station-ary at Stratford Parkway

Footbridge installationThe installation of a footbridge is the latest major development on site of the new Stratford Parkway train station.

The majority of the footbridge was installed last weekend (16th & 17th March) with the remainder being completed this weekend.

The construction of Stratford Parkway is progressing ahead of schedule and on budget, and is expected to be completed at the start of May, seven months earlier than originally planned, with the first train calling at the station on Sunday 19th May.

Councillor Peter Butlin, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport & Highways, paid a visit to the Stratford Parkway site on Monday 18th March to get an update on progress and tour of the site.

Top engineer visits Stratford Parkway

ICE visit StratfordThe country’s most senior civil engineer paid a visit to Stratford Parkway to see at first hand the progress of the £6.9 million railway station construction project.

Barry Clarke, the President of the Institution of Civil Engineers, was given a tour of the site and spoke at length to officers from Warwickshire County Council and contractors about the work.

After the visit Mr Clarke said he learned how local authorities can take a leading role in developing rail infrastructure and the need to work closely with Network Rail and rail operating companies.

The construction of Stratford’s new Parkway station is well underway, but not surprisingly hampered by the rain and the snow. In this video the Project Manager updates us on progress and says that despite the elements, they are on target to finish on time.
